Salvation in the Orthodox Church
How does one get saved? We as Orthodox Christians believe that by God’s grace we are saved, that we are being saved, and we will be saved. Faith in Christ as our Lord is essential.
The Bible teaches one must be baptized as the Lord says in Mark 16:16, “He who believes and is baptized, will be saved.” The Lord was Baptized for our sake to purify the waters and set an example. The early church taught that new believers must receive the Holy Spirit(Acts 8:14-16).
The Lord taught that we must live what we believe, for a “tree is known by its fruit.”We must have a relationship with God and follow His commands (Matthew 7:23). The Lord teaches us the need for partaking of Communion, “Most assuredly I say unto you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drinkHis blood you have no life in you”(John 6:53). The Bible teaches this was done weekly (Acts 2:42, Acts 20:7, I Cor. 11:20,26). To receive forgiveness, one should repent and confess their sins (I John 1:9). We also live our faith by our works through love (Gal. 5:6). This is how we love the Lord with our whole being and our neighbors as ourselves.
