What is the Orthodox Church?

The Coptic Orthodox Church is first and foremost Christian. It is one of the earliest Christian Churches established approximately 46 A.D. by the Apostle Mark, who wrote the Gospel titled after his name. We are Christians, meaning we believe in the Holy Trinity as one God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

We believe our Lord, God and SaviorJesus Christ came to earth, became man while fully remaining God, born of the Virgin Mary.

He taught us how to live as recorded in the four Gospels, was crucified, died and rose again, to raise us up with Him. He came on the earth to establish His church, His bride and the body of Christ and the gates of Hades would not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). He gave us His Holy Spirit in Baptism and through the laying on of Hands (Chrismation- I John 2:20,27) to live in us and unite us with Him, until His second coming. Our church is the same church that was begun almost 2000 years ago.
